It’s a story you’ve heard a thousand times before.
Two talented musicians spend decades playing rock and roll in the Live Music Capital of the World: Austin, Texas. They play in excellent bands, working in great venues in front of appreciative audiences.
The years roll by. The gear gets loaded in, the gear gets loaded out. Rinse and repeat.
And, you know how this tale usually ends. Late nights on stage give way to early mornings at the office, priorities shift and dreams blur out of focus.
That’s not what happened in this story.
Jordan Price and Erik Romberg took a different path. After spending many years cutting their teeth in a variety of local bands, the two longtime friends reconnected and made a conscious decision to make music that they loved on their own terms.
In 2015, they sold the Marshall stacks and the rock and roll machinery and diligently set about to create something different.
Years later, the Wycliff Brothers emerged.
Drawing from a broad horizon of musical influences, Wycliff Brothers play authentic and timeless songs using a variety of vintage acoustic instruments.
They are a pair of gifted songwriters, lead singers and consummate musicians seamlessly sharing a creative process. Their partnership leans heavily on the uniquely complimentary nature of their voices and the blend of harmonies that they create.
Wycliff also defies the usual predetermined definition of acoustic musicians. Sure, it is all wood and wire, but the songs are played with bold dynamics, traveling quickly between a whisper and a shout, turning on a dime. Wycliff plays hard. This music is far from folk.
The songs are melodic and and cinematic and tangible. Sometimes it feels like Tom Waits and Elvis Costello robbed a train and crashed it into an old Broadway theater.
